The Workshop Theater is pleased to recognize Melíza Gutierrez as a playwright selected out of a competitive pool of applicants for our Fall 2021 Writer’s Intensive. The Writer’s Intensive is an eight-week long, playwright-driven process geared towards revising an existing play. Poetic form and melancholic language drives this play into a realm beyond voyeurism – witnessing. VAL/VALENTINA take us through memories of adolescence, home, and family. Spanning loss by ICE, terminal illness, and internalized racism, this play is someone growing up, and us understanding why. Our congratulations and thanks to Melíza.

The Workshop Theater is pleased to recognize Dan Caffrey as a playwright selected out of a competitive pool of applicants for our Fall 2021 Writer’s Intensive. The Writer’s Intensive is an eight-week long, playwright-driven process geared towards revising an existing play. A parallel story, a parody on ignorance, a group of people talking about nothing as destruction tears through the city. Kaiju touches on large conversations, while contextualizing these small words in larger-than human action. Caffrey explores how comfort, passion, and anger can make anyone a monster.

The Workshop Theater is pleased to recognize Ali Keller as a playwright selected out of a competitive pool of applicants for our Fall 2021 Writer’s Intensive. Resonating with the overworked person in all of us, Keller highlights how the never-ending clockwork of life grates on our psyche: the repetition of everyday life in a cubicle; the conversations that always begin with “Apparitions, this is LILY”; the schedule that doesn’t give a lunch break, let alone time to put the ghosts to rest. And then a life-or-death not-ordinary situation shows up in the office, changing everything.

The Writer’s Intensive is an eight-week long, playwright-driven process geared towards revising an existing play. With charm, wit, and care, See-Tho crafts a play of the second coming. Exploring Maren and Josie's shifting partnership as they are faced with an unexpected pregnancy invites us to explore the impact of family, belief, and identity on love. The skill that See-Tho has in making honest characters is why we have faith in this play cycle.

The Writer’s Intensive is an eight-week long, playwright-driven process geared towards revising an existing play. The Workshop Theater is pleased to recognize Zoe Kamil as a playwright selected out of a competitive pool of applicants for our Spring 2021 Writer’s Intensive. The Writer’s Intensive is an eight-week long, playwright-driven process geared towards revising an existing play. Zoe Kamil creates a dangerous character, who causes others to succumb, resist and heal. This play resounds past the "hot topics" of feminism into an unapologetic exploration of womanhood and its expenses, and how those interact with race. Our congratulations and thanks to Zoe.

The Workshop Theater is pleased to recognize Ali Keller as a playwright selected out of a competitive pool of applicants for our Spring 2021 Writer’s Intensive. The Writer’s Intensive is an eight-week long, playwright-driven process geared towards revising an existing play. Ali plays with the surreal nature of capitalism as a customer service agent with the ever-present need to please is matched with her nemesis, a mega-Karen. It is a welcomed exploration of the unrealistic demands capitalism and patriarchy place on women in the service industry. Our congratulations and thanks to Ali.
