Almost 2 years after I saw this piece, pre-pandemic, and I’m still raving about this amazing and powerful play. Yee takes us on a journey through music as a child gets a rare opportunity to connect with their family’s history. I’ve never seen such bold writing leap off the page and keep me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. There isn’t just one word to describe this piece. If you get a chance to read or see it, you’re definitely in for a treat

Cambodian Rock Band was one of the last shows I saw pre-COVID and I am so grateful for it. There is humor along with the devastation of the events the play depicts, and I was cheering at the end (along with the rest of the audience) in a way that I never have at any other show.

The ASTOUNDING production at Signature Theater was the last play I caught before lockdown and I'm still thinking about it. I laughed, I cried, I was educated about the historical violence of totalitarian political regime changes. The music is incredible. The characters and situations are rendered with so much craft, research, cultural richness, and heart. Honestly this is the best play I've seen in New York in probably a decade. PRODUCE THIS PLAY. SEE THIS PLAY. WOW. WOW. WOW.

The production at Victory Gardens in Chicago was a testament to the adaptability of theatre. Part Memory Play, part Family Drama, part History Lesson, and part Rock Concert, this is an unforgettable piece of theatre.

I cried, laughed, danced, and enjoyed the hell out of CAMBODIAN ROCK BAND when I caught it at the La Jolla Playhouse. It's electric and powerful. Run to go and see this, if given the opportunity.

I love the humor, and the relationship between the Father and the Daughter at the core of this brilliant and heartbreaking work. Rock on!

Truly one of the best act one endings I've ever seen. A devastatingly powerful, powerfully hopeful play. Do not hesitate to see this show live if you get the chance

What a masterful juggling act this play performs -- a keenly observed character comedy, an uncompromising interrogation of morality on a global scale, and a kick-ass rock & roll concert -- all in the service of exploring and ratifying the power of art to make a difference in the world. Knocks your socks off in performance.

I saw this play last night and it was masterful. Yee took us on a two hour emotional journey that I don't know if I've fully recovered from. Everyone needs to move this to the top of their must see/read lists now.
