A moving, gripping search for a father leads to a shocking discovery. For healing to ever occur it must be confronted. Excellent work.

What a compelling, fast, and affecting read. The initial setup provides us with characters that have potent desires and obstacles, and the plot unfolds with a hefty dose of subtle but powerful surprises. At the end of an emotionally wrenching final scene, the play ends on an ambiguous, unresolved note that is not unsatisfying--on the contrary it serves to underscore and solidify the strength and hope of the three central women. I would love to see this producible and important play have a long life! How awesome that it is having a run of productions recently.

The story of NEVER NOT ONCE unfolds beautifully, with reveals that are surprising and at the same time feel inevitable. This play feels incredibly relevant, nuanced, and thought provoking. I hope theatres will take a look at this play for their upcoming seasons.

Wonderfully written, kept me on my toes right up to the end. The shifting dynamics, the way the story plays out - WOW! Anchored in a solid lesbian relationship having its own ups and downs, add to that a daughter searching for her biological father - this play does not go where you think it will go - instead it heads right into the heart of this very moment making it such a relevant and intense play to read - I wish I could see it staged! Should be produced everywhere! A MUST-SEE!!!!!

This play was a FINALIST for the 2017-2018 In-Progress New Play Reading Series at Unicorn Theatre in Kansas City, Missouri. It is our pleasure to support NEVER NOT ONCE.

I adore this play. Carey’s work here once again proves her gifts for emotional largeness within economic dialogue and storytelling. Never Not Once doesn’t shy away from its complicated and risky subject matter (that will absolutely generate fiery discussion) but still impressively succeeds at remaining approachable the whole way through. Ugh, I could go on far longer than the word limit here will allow. To be brief: do it. I can’t wait to see this on stage.

It is the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center's pleasure to recommend Carey Crim and their play Never Not Once as a finalist for our 2018 National Playwrights Conference. The play rose through a competitive, anonymous, multileveled selection process that took nearly nine months to execute. As one of 53 finalists out of more than 1,4200 submissions, the strength of its writing has allowed this work to prosper in such a competitive selection process.

As the co-coordinator of the Jane Chambers Feminist Playwriting Award, I was fortunate to direct a staged reading of NEVER NOT ONCE at the 2017 ATHE conference. Dramaturgically speaking, the play is air-tight and thrilling. The roles were wonderful roles for actors: meaty, nuanced. The play's central question is very provocative and timely. It generated one of the most lively and passionate post show discussion of any play I have worked with in recent memory. The audience WANTED to stay and talk about this play. I think it would generate immense excitement especially in a university setting.

I was lucky enough to attend the reading at The Purple Rose Theatre, and mark my words - this play is a diamond waiting to be mined. Poignant, provocative, funny and timely - honest, fully-drawn characterizations plus dream roles for actors. Read it and you'll see for yourself. I've followed Carey Crim's work for awhile (Morning After Grace, Wake) and I truly think this is among her best in a body of already outstanding work.
