A gem: the relationships and the principal event unfold economically and hauntingly.

Structure is the backbone of every strong monologue, and ONE IS THE ROAD proves the point! Poignant, powerful and engaging in every sense, this monodrama is a superb example of expertise in capturing an audience and delivering a whole lot of "Pow"!

MARK LOEWENSTERN’s play, “One is the Road”, is one of the best short play monologues I have read on New Play Exchange. The device used to tell the story is poetic in my mind. Such a winning play! BRAVO!

Sometimes you read a piece where the structure is so perfectly the play and vice versa that you understand what all the talks about structure are all about. Riveting and stunning.

Wow, this is one of the most magnificent monologues I've ever read. A truly amazing piece of writing--incredibly theatrical and beautiful and striking, and the end floored me. What a marvelous piece, I highly recommend that you take a moment to read this fantastic monologue. It won't take more than five minutes and you will be a better writer because of it. I'm serious. Read it now.

I like variations in structure, and this play does something new. Regardless of the listing effect, a story was developed. Though one might be led to judge the characters, Mark suspends that tendency.

I haven't read a monodrama in a long time where internalization, the stream-of-consciousness, the rush of the senses was so enthralling. Beautiful work. This will have any audience listening to every heart-felt word.

This unique short play is wonderfully inventive and theatrical, and so emotionally devastating. I finished it and immediately wanted to re-read it, even though I knew what was coming. Terrific!

A haunting piece that provides amazing opportunities for both actor and director! It's so difficult to make monologues stand on their own, and Loewenstern uses an echoing, poetic structure to drive the play towards its potently inevitable conclusion.

I saw this at the 2018 Midwest Dramatists Conference and it is a haunting piece that compels the audience's attention. Loewenstern grabs your attention with the first line, pulls you on board with the driver, and gives you the ride of a lifetime.
