Reading this was tender and sooo interesting to imagine onstage.

From the very start, I could just "hear" the digital handshake of the modem. That moment of anticipation as the computer connects with the rest of the world. Dwyer nails the style, the vernacular of two souls, joined in the ether. It is simultaneously poetic and prophetic.

Sexy, angsty and #nostalgia vibes. Allyson's beautiful and dreamy play will take u back to those feels from middle school HARD. Very produceable and gorgeously crafted.

An intimate intravenous shot of nostalgia, longing, and that powerful surge of feeling seen by someone for the first time. Would love to experience this piece in any of the mediums it would be excellently suited to!

What I thought would be some kind of early 2000s period piece is actually a short play that plays very effectively with time and memory. We don't know exactly where or when we are but all that matters is we get to spend time with these characters who at one point meant a lot to each other.

An exceptionally clever and affecting dial up connection conversation across time. The lives of those living through the fast moving changes caused by the internet are charted in this pacey short. An Instant Message would play equally well on radio or as a podcast with the family background and stories introduced in a natural manner yet in a surreal situation. Dwyer has an ear for capturing the nuances of children’s and adult dialogue and for succinct storytelling in this wistful tale of the cyber generation.
