Beauty and the Beast has always been my favorite fairy tale, and Reina Hardy's Glassheart is another reason to love it! The witch is by turns creepy and sympathetic; the Beast has facets to his personality I've never thought about; and Only has become one of my heroines! Can't recommend this re-telling highly enough!

Glad I got to see this play in NYC! It's a lovely play, a retelling of Beauty and the Beast for modern audiences that resonates even more in today's political atmosphere. I highly recommend it!

Such an engaging read - I'd love to see this in production! Besides being a twist on a fairy tale that's near and dear to my heart, the characters are so well-drawn and specific, and the humor has a touching humanity at the center of it. I never thought I'd fall in love with an anthropomorphic lamp!

A smart and self-aware twist on a classic fairytale. The story is about love and finding "the wish in your heart", as Only, the protagonist tells us, but it is also about Only's journey to self determination. By shifting the focus of the narrative to the Beast's only remaining servant, by giving us a "Beauty" that is not just a one-dimensional damsel in distress but a real woman with complicated problems, and by writing a "Witch" that is at once frightening and sympathetic, Hardy makes this beloved fairytale resonate for modern audiences.

This play is charming. And it's charmed. I first read it when I was Lit Manager for Barnyard Theatre, and I loved it. I was lucky enough to see it produced in Austin, and the charm of the page leaps right onto the stage.

I just reread Glassheart and fell in love with it all over again. It's full of qualities that make Reina Hardy such a strong writer -- warmth, wit, humor, and heart.

One of my favorite plays to ever pass through Orlando Shakespeare Theatre while I was Director of New Plays there. Glassheart is a rare beast of a play that will shatter your perception of beauty and friendship.

A mighty, imaginative play that deserves a great deal of attention from a playwright with a sharp, smart, passionate voice.

I directed a production of this play January 2015 in Washington DC, for Rorschach Theatre. The play ties magic, pain, hope, and fear together to create a modern myth unlike any experienced before. The use of stage magic, improbable stage directions, and sharp/fast dialogue take the audience on a wild ride that pulls at all the heartstrings at once.
