The conversation about Scrooge's shirt and bedclothes in the future is one that is sometimes overlooked in the original story, due to the very sad news about Tiny Tim that follows but, in this brilliant re-imagining of the classic tale, Arthur has brought the character of Mrs Dilber into the spotlight and boy does she shine. Its a wonderfully constructed twist on the classic tale that not only offers a brilliant re-imagining but it offers a great female lead in a story that's normally dominated by men! Would make a great alternative for a festive performance!

This may not be the season to BE jolly, but it is certainly the season to READ Jolly! Arthur M, Jolly’s “Mrs. Dilber’s Fabulous Bedcurtains” is simply brilliant. Everything you know from “A Christmas Carol” is there, and then some. With Scrooge’s housekeeper as the central character, Jolly provides clever commentary on the original story, Victorian society, and our current economic imbalances. And did I mention it’s funny? Read it, you’ll see!

Finally, Mrs. Dilber gets her say! I love the way that we get to see a holiday classic from the perspective of one of the most underrated characters. As she intercepts the ghosts meant for her crotchety employer she finds herself on a journey of her own. This play takes the beloved characters and flips them on their heads, poking fun at the original text and bringing a new family-friendly holiday tale for those who are burnt out with the old man always at the center of everything.

There's a lot to love about Mrs Dilber's Fabulous Bedcurtains. The reframing from old rich bloke Scrooge as the centrepiece of A Christmas Carol to the straight talking, working class Mrs Dilber is in itself a joy. This action packed comedy maintains much of the original story line we all know so well while bringing an entirely fresh perspective and bold changes to well loved characters (Tiny Tim can never be seen in the same way again - be warned!) Arthur Jolly's Mrs Dilber has wicked turn of phrase bound to delight audiences.

If Mel Brooks ever decided to direct a version of "A Christmas Carol," I would insist that he use Arthur M. Jolly's play as the foundation for the screenplay. Better yet, I would like to see every treacly crepe-paper and baling-wire community theatre production of Dickens' classic replaced by this laugh-out-loud story that really gets to the heart of class struggle in London: it's not all about you, Ebenezer! The playwright has the perfect touch, as well as some great blink-and-you-miss'em puns and sight gags. Have fun with it... or should I say, have a Jolly holiday.

A fantastic new Christmas story centering around a character in A Christmas Carol we haven't seen much before now, Mrs. Dilber the housekeeper. How will she navigate the series of ghosts that come through the course? So fun!

Told from the eye-rolling perspective of Mrs. Dilber, Ebenezer Scrooge's mistreated housekeeper, Jolly's hilarious prequel to A Christmas Carol exposes the classism of the Dickens classic. Mrs. Dilber's bedchamber serves as the "staging area" for Dickens' ghosts, and she derails their plans by convincing them to give her a sneak peek of the night they've planned for Scrooge. Cameo's by The Little Match Girl and Dr. Jekyll (who transforms a hulking, murderous Tiny Tim into the sweet child we know) add to fun--especially the spectacular and bloody "revolution" that an outraged Mrs. Dilber foments in reaction to all she sees.
