A two-character play with an intriguing structure. I particularly liked Soltero-Brown's treatment of the sheriff, whose silence says everything.

Soltero-Brown has such a talent for designing plays that hone in on a particular subject without naming it directly and has really brought forward the weight and the anxiety being carried by a local police department. The perfect piece for any theatre looking for unique and thought provoking work. A go-to for anyone working with Protest Plays or Theatre Action Gun Control.

A STATEMENT by Ricardo Soltero-Brown, a monologue with two characters, is an unexpected perspective on gun violence - from a police officer. Without hearing from the sheriff, the one who must make the immediate press statement, the play is more arresting - and the words are pressure, weight on the heart of this other character - and the readers as well, who hope one day they don't have to make their own statement to someone who has lost a loved one to gun violence. Smart choice for a reading or festival on gun reform.
