I want to see this so badly. I want to see how the mastodon is created, and I want to hear the sound effects (a sound designer would have a field day with this play!) All of a sudden, everyone becomes what they wanted to be when they grew up, and the play does a fantastic job capturing child-like wonder and improbabilities among a group of adults (who are all now spies, ballerinas, astronauts, etc.) Jess wanted to be a mastodon when she grew up, and the play explores the feeling of not quite belonging, among so much more.

Saw this at MSU this past semester and saw it on my NPX so I wanted to give it a rec! This show is extremely charming, full of witty, rich dialogue and well-rounded characters. This show combines childhood innocence, gut-wrenching emotion, and extremely tense situations all together very nicely. Teagle does a brilliant job with this piece, and it is a treat to see live!

This play is a beautiful explosion of imagination and craft! Teagle builds an amazing world that has you rushing from page to page reveling in the humor, honesty, and absurdity of this place that grants you childhood wishes permanently. It’s also a play that’s jumping off the page to be staged! I highly recommend read and producing this script. Mastodons for ever.

Don't we all wish the adult world would keep it's promises? I loved encountering Jess on her journey to understand why she wished to be a Mastodon while the other little girls wished to be pretty princesses, and the troubling discoveries she makes about Clarence who turns into his childhood wish of being secret agent "Clint". It's a fantastical journey, full of fresh humor, with a playful ensemble.

This play brought me so much joy. I appreciated how the playwright used world-building questions to propel the plot forward. Mastodons is a poignant look at how difficult it can be to find your purpose in life, and how it can be even more difficult to find a way to fulfill your purpose. (Especially if you're a mastodon.)

This is a funny, wonder filled, magical play. I loved it on the page and I can only imagine what a delight it would be on stage and how much fun it would be for a production team to bring it to life.

This tour de force of a play is a delight that packs an emotional punch. It is creative and thoughtful with roles actors would have a blast bringing to life and production elements designers would love to tackle. This play stuck with me for days after reading it.
