I want to crawl into this play and live there forever! Adam Szymkowicz has created a delightful, escapist fantasy that I imagine would be a joy to bring to life for everyone from designers to actors to audience members. He’s managed to write into being a world that feels as warm, funny, and inviting as curling up with a big mug of tea under a soft blanket and reading a beloved book. If you need a heartwarming smile and good-natured chuckle, give this script a try!

A wonderful delight into the most magical place there is. Where worlds await in a tiny shop whose value knows no bounds. Entertaining and sure to be adored by all. Marvelous!

If you usually find whimsy cloying and hard to swallow, I strongly suggest you try the Adam Szymkowicz version. The Book Store is magical, yes, but it knows how you feel, it gets it, it’s been there...and it finds a million little ways to coax you in anyway. Delightful, witty, moving, and satisfying as a good novel — the one you didn’t know you needed, right when you needed it.

Charming, whimsical and fun. This play reads like a breeze. 93 pages and I felt like I was finished in minutes. Would be perfect for a large cast - either children, adults, professional or amateur. It feels simultaneously small and epic - just as any decent bookstore should. I loved the characters and I loved the momentum. I highly recommend this play!

"So you know how important this store is. It’s more than a store. It’s a haven for words, for knowledge, for beauty. It’s a cathedral and a museum and a garden." I work in a used bookstore that is all of these things and Adam's play just hit me in all the right feels. This play is fun and lighthearted but it also means a lot to me. Adam strikes such a wonderful balance between play and depth and this play wraps itself around you and makes you care. I love it.

A large-hearted ensemble piece that offers a fresh and very funny vision of contemporary reading culture - in all its embattled and enchanted glory. At the end of each uncanny corridor, the characters often find the last thing they were expecting but the only thing they actually need, the same which most of us can recall from our most important reading experiences. A thoughtful, energetic play that will delight any audience!

The Book Store is a delightful play that completely envelopes you in a magical world you won't want to leave. As with many of his plays, Adam Szymkowicz imbues his oddball characters with a gentle whimsy and a quiet sense of longing that will stay with you long after you leave the titular store. In a world full of digital distractions, this script is a breath of fresh air.
