A powerful piece on the difference of generational attitudes, gay and straight, towards safe sex. It might not seem like the most romantic thing in the world, but it just may be. Well done.

Hoke doesn't play it safe. She perfectly captures the tension and division between gay men of different generations. The playwright got Andrew right in voice and attitude -- these clueless young men/twinks are out there. What could've been a clinical encounter becomes one of unexpected intimacy and compassion -- wow. As a gay man, thumbs up, she got it right. If you're producing a gay short play festival consider this brutally accurate play.

Intense, intimate, and truthful to the bone. I wish more plays would tackle this subject matter and promote not only knowing your status but getting tested regularly. Great job, Donna!

The difference between hooking up and intimacy is as simple as taking a test, and the vulnerability necessary to do so changes the two characters in this play from being passing strangers into friends or maybe more.

A beautiful window into a moment between two people on the verge of intimacy, this play creates a relationship to history, while attending to the immediacy of the choices we make -- right now. Impressive, sympathetic and richly developed characters move through this powerfully compelling plot. Writers could study Hoke's construction here, as a how-to on the 10-minute play form. Exquisite work.

THE QUICKIE by Donna Hoke gets so much accomplished in its short 10 pages. I was instantly invested in both characters, Hoke is clearly a master at creating conflict right from the get go, and the ending was spot on. Really well done.

A short play that is anything but short of insight - intense and incisive. For anyone who knows, has known, or may at some point in the future know an HIV victim, this is a work of importance. Highly recommended

Compelling tension between two men representing two different 'gay' generations. Intense, sexy short play that is NECESSARY THEATRE: it'll get people talking about ignorance, fear and sex after the AIDS crisis. If you're producing an evening of gay contemporary plays, it's imperative you choose this play.
