A deftly plotted search for what is true and what is not, and also questions whether our inherent free-will is something we should really be happy about. Adams's script is adeptly eched with paranoia and doubt, an urgent tale for the era of COVID-19.

A wealth of complexity in a manageable cast size. This play is great read. The central question raised by Adams is timely and profound. A well executed piece of theater.

PRODUCE THIS PLAY NOW! This is such a compelling, heartbreaking, and yet hopeful play. Her Own Devices has a stellar cast of characters and so many interesting facets for designers and choreographers to explore.

Madeleine's journey is empowering; the Robot is adorably relateable; Boyle is an amazing villain; Alayna is super sympathetic; and George is a powerhouse! There is a mass of arms that weave a dance through the laboratory, and the King of Germs worming his way into Madeleine's nightmares.

Big questions about existential angst are eloquently packaged in toy robots and unethical science experiments.

    A MUST READ!

Saw this breath taking work in Kansas City. Sharp and inventive, it asks questions of the morality of experimentation and autonomy. A perfect sci-fi thriller, masterfully done, with fantastic roles for women.

This haunting play is sci-fi at its best - it has a fully fleshed-out world without having to be about the world-building. Big, imaginative ideas fit into a single set and very practical staging, leaving us to focus on the fascinating characters that Adams has created.

A subtle sci-fi that is accessible to a wide range of ages. Young audiences will connect with the empowering Madeleine, and a more mature storyline; while older audiences will be transported back to a more nostalgic, magical world once read in chapter books in the corner of the library.

Excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the ground. "Her Own Devices" is one of the most perfect plays that I've ever read. It's a fantastically interesting story to start--strange and theatrical and disturbing and beautiful. The characters are so real and so lovable in all their brokenness. Madeleine is the kind of character you never forget. To see this on stage would be an experience that I desperately want to have. Just an absolutely incredible show that MUST BE STAGED how has this not been staged. It needs to be seen and heard. Highly recommended.

Adams is a master of theatricality! This play is full of beautiful images and sounds, the silent King of germs is a haunting image! This story is endlessly fascinating. You are so attached to Madeleine and her own world. The voice is specific and unique and Adams' command for language is apparent from the start. It took the opening line and I was already hooked. This is a must read play with a ton of heart and beautiful images to feed the soul.
