    Premiere Stages, the professional Equity theatre in residence at Kean University, is pleased to recognize “Motherland” by Allison Gregory as a Semi-Finalist for the 2023 Premiere Play Festival. “Motherland” rose through a competitive selection process conducted by Premiere staff and a panel of outside theatre professionals to become one of 40 Semi-Finalists out of 701 submissions. The panel was particularly impressed by the language in the piece, as well as the strong, updated parallels to Brecht’s “Mother Courage”. Our congratulations and thanks to Allison.

    Motherhood embodied requires all the strength in the world to keep going no matter how tired or how much is getting piled on top of you. Beautiful lessons in going forward, continuing to do and look up. Marvelously done!

    Premiere Stages, the professional Equity theater in residence at Kean University, is pleased to recognize "Motherland," by Allison Gregory, as a semifinalist in the 2017 Premiere Stages Play Festival. "Motherland" rose through a competitive selection process conducted by Premiere staff and an outside panel of theater professionals over the course of five months to be one of 18 semifinalists out of roughly 400 submissions to the Festival. The panel was particularly impressed by the play's deft language, timely and wise adjustments to "Mother Courage," and its examination of the intersection of poverty and motherhood. Our congratulations and thanks to Allison.

    It is the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center's pleasure to recommend Allison Gregory and their play Motherland as a finalist for our 2016 National Playwrights Conference. The play rose through a competitive, anonymous, multileveled selection process that took nearly nine months to execute. As one of 54 finalists out of more than 1,450 submissions, the strength of its writing has allowed this work to prosper in such a competitive selection process. Our readers especially responded to the contemporary relevance of this adapatation.
