I was lucky enough to be present at the 2019 reading of Guenevere. I'm such a sucker for a feminist adaptation of a classic tale. Guenevere does this seamlessly. Cinoman perfectly challenges patriarchial ideas that have existed for centuries. It leads the audience to question the very history they were raised to believe.

From the very start of this fabulous comedy, in the talented hands of Susan Cinoman, I knew this play would deliver on its promise. Guenevere tells a great story from a legend; mixes it up with a feminist lens that is 9 parts funny but also packs punch; entertains beginning to end; and authentically moves me!

In a patriarchal world, the man took the credit and the woman behind the legend has a great story to tell. Love!

Guenevere is a stunning beautiful story based on the Arthurian legends we know--or think we know. The title character is a woman any actress who love to sink her teeth into and the dialogue is clever and witty with just the right dose of levity and humor when needed. Susan Cinoman's clever twist on a classic is tautly plotted and at times much more plausible than the original myth.

With Guenevere, Cinoman turns the Arthur legend on its head and dissects it. Equality and goodness remain as does the patriarchy. Cinoman moves from the past ideals to the present realities with ease (and you start to realize that not enough has changed in male/female role perception as you may have wished). Humor comes even in the darkest places. With a bit of the Arthur legend here and A Lion in Winter there, what we have is a new and credible myth that stands alone. Long live Queen Quenevere.

I love a good myth creation story, and in "Guenevere," Susan Cinoman delivers beautifully. Turning the Arthurian legends on their head with style, wit, and appropriately anachronistic cleverness, Cinoman has created a modern myth that is not only a more than plausible twist on the famous Arthur/Guenevere/Lancelot love triangle, but one that resonates with loss, longing, and regret without becoming maudlin or abrasive because it is so smartly written, has such depth of feeling, and maintains a wry sense of humor throughout. Mind. Blown.
