A marvelous glimpse inside the inspiration that a young lover of the arts feels when they've found that special subject that deeply connects with them. Love!

"Theda just oozes like sex poison..." such a wonderful line. Young Lola, off to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, delivers her report on the legendary Theda Bara is an expert mixture of wit, insight, and the occasional non sequitur.

We all know Lola, we went to school with her, or we were a gender-swapped version. Her love for Bara is summed up perfectly here: "I know I’m funny looking, I hear it enough from my mom and from the idiots in the quad. She was funny looking and people worshiped her." Amen, Lola.

Such a great monologue! It brings back that awe that we all have in high school at discovering those things that excite us or inspire us. For me it was actually Bette Davis and I did my 12th grade term paper on her career so I love Vamping for bringing back those memories of a time when I was so eager to read as much as I could about the old film world and which carried my love of those movies forward to this day. Thank you Burbano for a great monologue!

What a great monologue! Burbano mixes the facts and history so well with this amazing character she created that I was transported back to high school and those painful presentations everyone had to deliver. Lola is funny and frank and I'd sign up for more histories given through her perspective in a heartbeat. For sure love the

"this is a chick who destroys men with her evil gothy sexy lady-ness" - "the makeup had to be, like yellow for her face and brown for her lips. So she looked sorta high-chola." --- Absolutely one of the funniest pieces I've read on NPX. Burbano also mixes in some commentary about prejudice and how some things never change. HIGHLY recommended..."But Theda just ooozes like sex poison and destroys this stock broker."
