MERIT follows Mona, the only Black student (and Southerner) in her prestigious graduate fiction program in rural Vermont. When she befriends distinguished professor Richard Sive—a demanding divorcee with fatigued sex appeal—the two are called to strike a balance between desire and professionalism.
