Evelyn thinks this may be her last solo trip to her Caribbean beach house before encroaching old age and interfering children dictate otherwise. Global vagabond Rory is just looking for a warm, congenial pit stop. Taking up Evelyn’s offer of a place to stay a night, maybe two, Rory finds himself feeling more and more at home at Evelyn’s place. She meanwhile is unexpectedly delighted to have an agreeable, helpful young companion around. They both realize that their friendship is offering more than they expected.

The premature arrival of Evelyn’s son Greg and his family upends the tropical tranquility and reopens old family wounds. Uncomfortable with change, and anxious to make sure his aging mother is “taken care of,” Greg is suspicious of Rory’s presence and resentful of the unfamiliar, freewheeling atmosphere at his family retreat. He watches with mounting frustration as his mother and her young house guest share a comfortable camraderie he finds unsettling, to say the least.

Tired of acting as the buffer between her abrasive husband and the rest of the world, Trish stands back and lets Greg dig himself an ever deeper hole, while their teenage daughter Sydney tries to put the moves on Rory, if only out of boredom and the desire to stick it to her dad. The tangle of competing interests, loyalties and affections forces everyone to re-examine their comfortable assumptions about time, age, love and acceptance. And when Greg makes a final desperate attempt to return things to “normal,” Evelyn takes the initiative and make some surprising choices about how she wants to live the rest of her life.

Marino's play brings up the question of what "being in good health" really means. This senior concern is the undercurrent of this ocean front bungalow. The family is concerned with Evelyn's future, however long it may be, while Evelyn is enthralled with the present and her newly acquired younger companion. It's obvious in the dialogue which mindset wins because Julie is made miserable by reminders about how old she is, and thrives on the present with the interests and relaxed attentions of her new friend. It turns out that they're a perfect fit for now.
