Such a unique take on classic tales. Fantastic roles for women.

A brilliant re-imagining of this classic cast of characters and the lives they will live in the modern era. Fascinating and well done!

What an awesomely vivid, original, and compelling theatrical universe Brandli has created here! BLISS' roots in and subversion of mythic archetypes of women are brilliantly executed. I appreciated how the original stories take on new resonance in this adaptation, and the ideas explored don't feel shoehorned to fit their mythological counterparts. Each of these women is complex and propelled by anger, sadness, and frustrations that you can't help but sympathize with. The stage pictures described are super theatrical in the ways they combine bold design ideas, movement, and song. I'd love to see this in production!

This play is hilarious and then suddenly you are crying. The satire is tremendous and the story is really fresh and surprising. This is also a great play for actors. This is greek theatre, with a much needed injection of feminism. Highly recommend this play.

Smart, funny, and eviscerating. I found myself belly-laughing out loud many times and then being horrified that I was laughing. The genius of re-imagining Clytemnestra, Antigone, Medea, and Cassandra as 1960's New Jersey Housewives constrained by the times, their husbands, and Miss Emily Post lies in the fact that it's not just a clever or cute gimmick, it's an impeccably crafted piece of writing.

This play is a complete joy. It's feminist AF, so funny and so smartly crafted. The characters and the concept are a delight and I appreciate how Brandli grounds everything in the shared experience of being a woman in the world. It's grounded in truth and pain which is why it's so satisfying. Killer roles too. If I were an actor, I'd get in on this. Oh- and Brandli's mission to reclaim the Greek myths is brilliant.

A wonderfully written show- and a great performance at MOXIE Theatre!

This is a reclamation of mythology that empowers its heroines. The play asks a question of fate vs. choice – are we doomed to repeat patterns and story tropes regardless of time period? Or is there something we can do to reclaim our narratives and take control of our voices? There is an infuriating “nowness” to this play that makes it potent. The lens that Brandii tells this story has mythological, almost cautionary fairy-tale quality about it that makes it feel playful, but it is still puts forth a difficult examination of what it means to be a woman.

It is the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center's pleasure to recommend Jami Brandli and their play BLISS (or Emily Post is Dead!) as a finalist for our 2015 National Playwrights Conference. The play rose through a competitive, anonymous, multileveled selection process that took nearly nine months to execute. As one finalist out of hundreds of submissions, the strength of this play’s writing has allowed this work to prosper in such a competitive selection process.
