  • Dan West: Hello, Dave Or A Short Play About Dying

This innovative short piece packs a lot into its ten minute running time. In a darkly funny, yet touching, portrait of a forgotten military veteran seeking a way out from the life he did not want of make, Stephen Byrum has also delivered a succinct critique on loneliness and AI learning models.

  • Brent Alles: Hello, Dave Or A Short Play About Dying

10/9/24: A very interesting musing on what death might be like in a speculative future. At the end, do we want something like L.E.M.B. to be with us? Is there comfort in at least having some type of presence with you? That's the central question here mixed in with some humorous quips back and forth between man and machine. An inventive 10-minute that definitely left me thinking after I read it.

This is such a truly moving piece of writing, that words fail me. May we all have such a buddy in our lives - before it's too late. Read it. Produce it.

  • John Busser: Hello, Dave Or A Short Play About Dying

This piece by Stephen Byrum was quite moving. Death is something we strive to avoid as long as possible. But as all deaths are inevitable, some want to go out on their own terms. As our character, Dave does here. But he won't be going alone. LEMB is here to assist and provide some comfort along the way. Or just a friendly(?) ear. Clearly Dave needed to get some things off his chest and even if it's only a machine he's talking to, he'll have his say. Of course, LEMB is a bit more human than he looks.

Clever reversal of a 2001 sequence which touches on the importance of story and companionship.

This short play is so special. It has its dark comic moments, of course, but it also highlights how we may have neglected our veterans after all they have done for us. L.E.M.B. is a gift and a terrifying example. But it is nice to know Dave truly wasn't alone in the end.
