On the final day of the Pickett family's annual summer trip to the cabin on the lake, 11-year-old Melanie embarks on a last ditch effort to catch the ancient bass that resides beneath the dock. The Bass, who has eluded the Pickett family for generations, has other ideas. It's vigor versus wisdom as Melanie and The Bass wax poetic about the lives they've led and the trials they have yet to face.
