We've heard it before: "There's 6 types of plots!" "Everyone's doing stories like this!" "We already have a show like this. Why do we need another one?"
Because I dare say there aren't just six plots. I dare say there are 8 BILLION stories (and counting). Not all of them will be told, and that's a shame.
I am very lucky with how I grew up. I am very lucky that I was able to attend college, and even luckier that I was able to obtain a degree in an artform that many underestimate. I also know that I have a hard time seeing myself represented on screen and on stage. And if I can't see myself being represented, then I know there are MANY others who also feel the same. And I want to help change that.
As a writer, I have heard both sobs and uncontrollable laughter. As a performer, I have made people cheer and children scream (as I was, after all, playing a demonic teddy bear). As a director/choreographer, I have helped audiences interpret stories they think they already knew. That is, after all, the POWER of theatre. And I am okay with not being everyone's favorite. Some of my shows are funny. Some of them are sad. Some of them you'll like, and others you won't. That's okay. I yearn to be limitless.
And I hope you'll join me for the ride.
