At the heart of all my plays is moral judgment—what drives people to make difficult, irreversible and often destructive choices. Developing novel narrative structures as well as sympathetic characters strong enough to endure these moral gauntlets is, for me, the essence of playwriting. The virtuous circle of collaboration—feedback-rewriting-rehearsing-rewriting—has been the essence of my growth as a writer.
