Artistic Statement

How can we make tomorrow better than yesterday was? Because I am a playwright,
I suggest we start by making a play. A show in a theatre is a tiny world where we can
beta-test real freedoms in a sandbox of pretend. My favorite freedom is the freedom
to listen, and that is what I like to give the characters in my plays. What does it look
like when people listen to each other with curiosity and courage? How can language
help us find our true connections that hover above and simmer underneath the din
of what we expect each other to say and do? As an artist, I create spaces where a
community of makers and witnesses can come together to hear hushed voices and
to be changed by what we learn when those quiet murmurs become emboldened
and loud.
