Artistic Statement

I write plays about women of all ages, the struggles of family, and characters entangled in issues of equality and justice due to the lack thereof in our society. Having fallen in love with theatre as an actor years ago, I will tell you what I love about playwrighting - it is simply a continuation of play. Rather than on the floorboards, I play on the keyboard with characters, conflicts, plots and emotional subplots. I can play with time and space, expectations, rhythm and the lives of characters. I can write about themes and issues that are important to me and our struggling society. Creating something from nothing but an idea is pure magic. When the magic happens, the story and characters begin to breathe. It’s an expansive feeling, a playwright’s high! It can’t be sold on street corners, and it may never sell to a theater company, but it exists. Something new exists.

This artistic statement is a work-in-progress much like its creator.
