NEW OLEANNA takes on the task of causing harm within the complicated power structures of our society with a great amount of care and intelligence. It investigates the idea of intent and impact, including holding a magnifying glass up to the often repeated phrase "intention doesn't matter" and asking the characters (and the audience) to dig a bit deeper. This is an incredibly complicated play tackling incredibly complicated ideas, but Barr handles it expertly. You can't walk away from this play without talking about it for the rest of the evening.
  • Babel

I'm not usually a fan of science fiction or dystopian plays, but Babel achieved a level of realism that many science-fiction plays lack. The poetic language delivered just enough information for me to understand the world without overdoing the exposition. Very thought-provoking and reminiscent of a Black Mirror episode.

This play is an explosion of truth and frustration told in a fabulously creative manner. If COVID hadn't shut things down I would have been able to see this at Steppenwolf in Chicago, and now, after reading it, I am all the more disappointed I didn't get to see it staged. This is the perspective we need to be hearing history from. If you had time to watch Hamilton on Disney+, you also have time to read this work of art.
  • In His Hands

A poem of the mundane turned miraculous, In His Hands is breathtaking from start to finish. Benne deals with the very sensitive topic of religion and sexuality in a way that left me with an overwhelming sense of hope. God bless this beautiful play.

A fast-paced Western reminiscent of Bug by Tracy Letts, this play took me on a thrilling ride. I couldn't look away from the page from start to finish.

I had the pleasure of sitting in a workshop room for this play and every moment of this script is a delicious blend of comedy and heartbreak. There is nothing I like more than a play that uses magic to illustrate a deep interior human experience. This play does just that.

The opening monologue is completely captivating, and the body of the play after that did not disappoint. I laughed, I was stunned into silence, and I was moved to tears at the end. This is a beautiful, honest story about how to help people, and how incredibly inadequate we are at helping people. I'm in love with this play. I would love to see it performed. I think it is important for it to be performed.
