Artistic Statement

I firmly believe that the world is made of stories: what we are told, what we tell others, and what we tell ourselves. Those who control what story is told hold the power to shape human experience.

Theatre is a collaborative act of imagination. From scrawls in a notebook to seeing the curtain go up in the dark, it offers a chance to create something tangible and beautiful together and bring it to life. The text is the bones of a play, it is what gives it shape and support and the potential to move. I always liked that plays were made by playwrights in the way ships were made by shipwrights. It is a sculptural, physical process. Plays are built.

The theater is one of the last places where we can experience magic.
