Artistic Statement

I started writing plays -- and continue being consumed by the drive -- to create multi-dimensional roles for women of all ages and strata. Partly, that comes from being an actor myself and always being on the hunt for the next juicy role, and partly it comes from growing up in a college town in Mississippi (where there is no shortage of fascinating women from whom to draw inspiration).

A lot of my work takes place in the South because those are the rhythms I love. But first and foremost I always begin with character, people who, in my grasping hands, often find themselves as misfits, outcasts, or lonely souls looking to find their place. Don't let that fool you, though. Even my dramas have a sizable chunk of comedy.
