Artistic Statement

I write plays about women, families, and revolutions. I try to dismantle the patriarchy one page at a time. I write across a spectrum and revel in contrasts: my plays can be heartwarming or apocalyptic, sitcoms or brutal dramas. My plays can be both epic and intimate, cinematic and theatrical, hilarious and heartbreaking, uncomfortable and cathartic, intellectual and spiritual. I like to keep my audience on their toes, and I'm not afraid to drop you into an unfamiliar world but leave breadcrumbs to find your way out. I firmly believe going to the theatre isn't a passive experience, so I empower my audience members to actively use their imaginations by building opportunities to do so into my scripts. I write about things I love and things that scare me. Mostly, I write plays because it is the only way I can make sense of the world around me. When I create, I draw from many different inspirations, weaving them together into a fateful tapestry, a warm blanket, or sometimes even a technicolor dream coat.
