The preceding reviews give a sense of this play’s impact and possibilities, so I’ll just add that it struck me as “Romantic Gothic” in the spirit of Mary Shelley and John Keats. Menace, suspense, and horror surround a rescue attempt in the Reign of Terror. “The Ribbon” is an imaginative (maybe even camp?) adaptation of Irving’s story.
