Artistic Statement

No other medium can upend entrenched ideas like the theatre. And this is why – the theatre seethes with life, bringing people forcefully into the immediate present. The construct of the theatre itself speaks to the collective, not the individual. It speaks to shared humanity. It tells us we are connected because we are literally connected to the actors, the actors to each other, and then back to the audience. In the theatre, there is a dimension of depth and reality that is not available through other expressive art forms. So when a play makes us hurt or laugh or think, we recognize that we are allies. The ideas in the play are not about one person, but all of us. We’re in it together, sharing in the archetypal and timeless conflicts that make us human.
