Artistic Statement

Artistic Statement

My plays are often about identity: individual or collective, rejected or evolving. Even when tackling painful truths laughter will find its way into the story. I also write fiction, and that holds a lot of my heart. But what I love about playwriting is how collaborative it is-- none of the stories I write for the stage are complete without the artistic contributions of actors, directors, designers, audience members. Plays are something designed to get us experiencing moments, together. There is something beautiful and perpetually terrifying about that.

(Does that count as an artistic statement? TBD)
