I believe a groundbreaking artist is a shaman of our culture. Someone who journeys beyond the accepted norms of our society to a place most of us would never go. The best return with poems, stories, photos or art that can be shocking, unnerving. A report of a future we might not like or a way of being we might not understand.

In my plays, I try to give the audience a story they have never heard. Dramatize characters or relationships that aren't familiar. Explore conflicts and themes they have rarely considered. And--even if it's only in one scene--find something they haven't experienced before.
