Edward Redmond is a fatherless twenty year old growing up in London just after the Blitz. Having no education due to the recent World War, Ed must find a way to support himself as well as his mother, Lillian. Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) assigns Inspector Fuller to pull in a new kind of gangster: Non-violent young adults. Clever street kids (who really know the city) are stealing and selling old materials from recently abandoned warehouses throughout town. Desperate to save his mother, Ed gets involved in these crimes. This leads to a 5 year imprisonment at Dartmoor Prison.

Upon his release, Edward finds himself in a new London. The city has come to life again, providing new opportunities. Lillian works as a seamstress, tailoring clothes into a new trend. Edward keeps his head down, working daily at the docks of the Thames, unloading cargo from foreign ports.

One night, a small Co-Op depot in Mitcham, England is robbed by three men. A guard attempts to stop the gang but is shot down. This marks the first violent crime of the 1960’s. The CID is heavily pressured to produce a “trigger man”. When Inspector Fuller is assigned the case, he rounds up his usual suspects. Edward is brought in for questioning and eventually is charged with the murder of the Co-Op security guard.

After spending three weeks on death row, Redmond is granted an appeal and his sentencing changes. He is to spend the remainder of his life in prison. Redmond must find a way to survive the days ahead of him and forgive those from his past. The Only Way Out is a story of family, injustice, and ultimately, freedom.

When the beds are taken from the Village of Marlowe, Martin must travel to the world of The Under. He meets a friendly monster named Meelo and together, they must face their fears for the good of human and monster kind alike.

“Martin and Meelo” is a musical of bravery in its truest form: standing up for what is right, even when nobody will stand with you.
