Artistic Statement

As a bonafide daughter of the South, I grew up steeped in extremism and, as a result, have been forced to reevaluate and evolve a good deal over the course of my life. The journey to leave closed-off and dangerous worldviews for more expansive and inclusive ones will be lifelong, and it appears in much of my work. I tend to gravitate toward the way our understanding of ourselves and our history impacts our relationships with pop culture, current events, and technology. I love to incorporate themes of time, shame, and redemption to show the many ways we attempt to connect our present selves to our past selves. This includes how institutions and relationships can be corrupted when we remember our pasts incorrectly.
