Artistic Statement

I seek to explore and demystify life outside of mainstream culture. I am also interested in understanding the horrifying things that people sometimes do out of love or fear.

I write character-driven dramas that tend to be funny. The act of collaboration is the most enlivening for me, and although I write with precision, I also leave intentional space for the creative forces that will eventually contribute to a full production. Having begun in theatre as an actor, I write no role simply in support of another.

I write for the theatre because I love the music of the spoken word. Each play is a musical score, each character’s voice a distinct instrument. I also work in theatre because I love danger, and I have found nothing to match the charge of a play that is alive through the collaborative process, connecting with an audience.

I want to transform an audience’s spirit for the brief catharsis of an evening’s entertainment and the after-shock that may last indefinitely.
