Artistic Statement

First and foremost, I am an artist committed to fighting for Anti-Racist theatre. I am continually investing and engaging in harm reduction, harm prevention, and relationship repair. I am endeavoring to build a space of trust that accepts lived experiences, a space of patience that makes time for people, and a space of joy and grief that allows emotions and physical sensations to have their place in the practice instead of being pushed away or set aside. And this fight continues onto the page.

Creating that space for joy and grief isn’t easy. It requires one to write fleshy plays, exhausting plays, sweaty plays, messy plays, human plays. It requires a willingness to rewrite the narrative and the self. But I am willing to do the revisions, draft after draft. Because when we do the work, when we empathize with those that have been hurt in the past, then we can take better care of our community in the future.
