Artistic Statement

First and foremost, I am an artist committed to fighting for Anti-Racist theatre. I am continually investing and engaging in harm reduction, harm prevention, and relationship repair. I am endeavoring to build spaces of trust that accept lived experiences, spaces of patience that make necessary time for people, and spaces of joy and grief that allow emotions and physical sensations to have their place in the practice. And this fight continues onto the page.

Creating these spaces isn’t easy. It requires one to write fleshy plays, exhausting plays, sweaty plays, messy plays, human plays. It requires a willingness to rewrite the narrative and the self. But I am willing to do the necessary revisions for my collaborators. Because when we do the work, when we empathize with those that have been hurt in the past, then we can take better care of our community as a whole in the future.
