J.W. Marshall's play, Vicinity/Memoryall, co-written with Christine Deavel, was produced at 18th & Union in Seattle, July, 2019. The script for Vicinity/Memoryall received an Artist Trust GAP Grant and was published by Entre Rios Books. In 2020 a portion of his play, Capital, was included in the New Play Lab at Freehold Theatre Lab/Studio and scenes from his play, Comedy, were included in Rain City Projects' "No Pants Required" reading series. He has an MFA in Poetry from the Iowa Writers Workshop and an MA in Rehabilitation Counseling from Seattle University. His poetry collection, Meaning a Cloud, won the Field Poetry Prize and was published by Oberlin College Press. Blue Mouth, a poetry chapbook, was a finalist for the Washington State Book Award. He co-founded and operated Open Books, a poetry-only bookstore in Seattle, from 1995 to 2016.
