Artistic Statement

What happens at the confluence of Others?

We concentrate so much on the surface of humanity, how can we arrive at the depths of understanding the human condition if we don't ask the hard questions, look at the hard places, feel the hard feelings?

My characters are trapped...in haunted diners, cluttered apartments, luscious hollers, blood-drenched battlefields; soulless art studios; in marriages, families, countries; between Black and White, love and hate, rich and poor, life and death, perception and reality, safety and danger, left and right, over here and over there, the past and the future. If they get out, what will they do? If they get out, where will they go? If they stay, what then?

I want individuals leaving the theatre to each have noticed something different within the themes, the metaphors, the language, the characters, the plot, the story, among the silences. A play shouldn't be the same thing to everyone. Life is more complex than that.
