Monique C. Aldred is a Black playwright originally from San Diego, California. She believes that great storytelling shows us possibilities beyond the “traditional” way of living our society has boxed us into. Her plays are about the joys and trials of platonic, romantic, and familial Black relationships in the framework of fantastical worlds, and the exploration of interpersonal challenges in these worlds. She writes about women who revel in their femininity but refuse to be defined and confined solely by that label. She truly loves writing about characters who are on a journey to discover themselves and own their uniqueness despite any objections.
