Artistic Statement

I write plays because plays have the ability to bridge our imaginations with empathy and social change. A play can reveal perspectives and stories that may be different from our own and brings them to life, spotlighting what is universal in a way that is cathartic and meaningful.

I live for the collaborative spirit of theater. Theater is a space where individuals – the playwright, actors, directors, set designers, lighting designers, sound designers, costume designers, choreographers, stage managers, and audience members – come together to explore ideas and exercise their imaginations. At its best, a play inspires discussion and builds community. Each performance is unique. We may be working with the same script, but no two performances are ever exactly the same. Everyone, including the audience, is part of the magic.

Each time I experience a play, I am reminded of why theater has survived for more than 2,500 years.
