Artistic Statement

I build plays the way a 3-D printer works or the way you’d make a big, delicious sandwich -- layer by layer. I aim for my plays to move forward in time through the ooze of emotional and historical context. My characters are not just protagonists pursuing an objective in the face of obstacles, they are humans pushing against societal rules imposed on them; they are stuck in place by love and family obligations and a lack of self-awareness. They make choices, but sometimes choices are made for them. People are complex and illogical and contradictory at times and I try to bring that into my storytelling with a sense of humor, tonal shifts, and a bending of traditional story structure.
