When Dana Schmidt accuses her up-until-then boyfriend Tim Evans of taking a drunken night too far, their small college campus is divided on who to believe and what qualifies as rape. Just as Dana is resolving to give up on trying to get the administration to take action, a zealous journalism major convinces the editor of the school's newspaper to let him run a piece on the alleged assault, thrusting the campus rumors into the open and forcing Dana and Tim to defend their reputations and their versions of what happened that night.
