I am interested in breaking new ground theatrically, while at the same time being mindful of the past and understanding how playwrights build on theatrical traditions. In my mind, the playwright provides a service to society; specifically, to help make sense of the world. Since the world is a dynamic and ever changing place, the playwright ideally serves as a medium of exchange between what can be and what is. The writer translates the possible idea to the present theatrical moment, using the humorous, the dramatic, the poetic and the human in such a way as to provide actors, directors and theater artists a vehicle to bring wonder and passion to the stage. Ultimately, theater is the most intimate and human of arts, as it is the live human voice, body, movement and mind that bring special meaning to the written word.
