Artistic Statement

I like plays that are plays--not interchangeable with TV and film--designed to take advantage of the stage and a live audience. My work tends to ask questions about identity and how people confront shifts in who they are or how they are perceived. Humor is a running thread, so that I write very funny dramas and comedies that sting a little or make you sigh. My current work emphasizes multi-ethnic casts or lgbt characters or both, not as position-making but because those are my worlds and I don't see them enough onstage.

My mantra: A good play should ask more questions than it answers.
