The parameters are intentionally broad: new-to-you, full length, written in the last 15 years. The students did read some of the most popular plays of the last decade-plus, but they also surprised me by their willingness to go further afield. Whether recommended by peers and mentors or stumbled upon by way of an NPX rabbit hole, they read un- and under-produced plays, plays that are unique in form or content, and plays by writers who make me excited to be working in this field.
