Catherine II, the Empress of Russia, at 37 years old is still quite beautiful. Very well educated, with a wry sophistication which often derails a conversation, she holds power with her eyes which are rumored to read people's thoughts. An avid reader and fan of Voltaire and Tacitus, she is also as vigorous in her sensual pursuits. Dropped into this court is John Rogerson, 25 years old and a recent graduate from Medical Studies in Edinburgh Scotland.
