A brilliantly constructed play of two strands that continue braiding with persistent mystery, yummy repetition of language and images, and steady, satisfying reveals. There are also pops of humor, violence, and poetry in unexpected and thrilling measure. Utilizing Nick's narration as the lens into the story allows for a expressionistic framework and the brilliant premise of: who's side of a story can you really trust?

I find myself recommending Dark Play or Stories for Boys to people regularly! I love its slippery theatricality, its complex humanity, its unfolding mystery, and how much I leaned in as an audience member when I first saw it produced at Boston Court Pasadena, a number of years ago. It's about ethics and identity, fear and desire -- and it's definitely worth reading! I'd love to see another production some time.

"dark play" was the first important play in my development as a writer. The story, which in some ways seems dated due to the rise of social media, is anything but dated as the concept of "catfishing" sadly catches on. This script intensely captures that need to be loved, to be touched... to feel something. It feels youthful, but these urges never leave us as we age.
