A riff on the ancient Persephone story, PERSEPHONE IN RETROGRADE
turns the mythological nymph into a contemporary teenager wresting
free of the patchouli-scented pull of her organic farming and astrology-
obsessed mother, Demeter. After her mother’s codependent meddling
crosses a line, Peresephone takes refuge in a steakhouse run by the
sleek Hades. Hades, however has tangled family drama of with his niece
and gatekeeper, on whom he extends a powerful hold. Though at first
Charon sneers at Persephone’s crunchy granola style and grating
sincerity, the two young women eventually help each other overcome
their emotional bondage and claim agency over their destinies.
