This is such a lovely work. "The Beauty Book" is spare and elegant in its storytelling. When the writer moves to a new scene, it's often obvious from the moment the lights rise what's happened since the last. The subtle touches impress me most. I love how the characters sometimes believe one thing ardently, but do something else entirely, and no lines are wasted commenting on that. The characters just are. It's almost as if the play has the least possible number of words. The dreamy, magical elements, briefly appearing mid-play, strike like lightning.
