Two couples sit at separate tables in a coffee shop. One relationship is (perhaps) just getting started. And the other (perhaps) coming to a close. Will the younger couple learn from the example displayed by their elders or will they follow the married pairs mistakes instead. CUP OF JOE is a brisk, dark comedy that drops us into two very different phases of a relationship. Stephen and Zoe are in the hopeful beginning of what might be, while Delia and Walter’s marriage is reaching its (well-deserved) end. Brandon expertly uses the calm setting of a coffee shop -- a place of ritual and community -- to catch us off guard with a darker story about the danger of settling and the struggle to reclaim one's agency. A great addition to a night of tens.
